The Dudley Riggs Theatre on Hennepin Avenue is home to Brave New Workshop, a satirical sketch comedy company founded in 1958. It bills itself as the oldest running satire theater in the United States, staging original topical revues rather than scripted plays from other writers. "Smelling Elon's Musk" is one of the company's recurring comedy productions, following its practice of naming shows after current events and public figures. The theater sits within a stretch of downtown Minneapolis venues along Hennepin Avenue that has long served the city's live entertainment .
