Hennepin County Government Center: Police observe Chauvin trial protest

On March 8, 2021, protesters gathered outside the Hennepin County Government Center in Minneapolis to rally and march on the day opening statements began in the trial of Derek Chauvin. Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer, was accused of murdering George Floyd on May 25, 2020. The building, located at 300 South Sixth Street, serves as the seat of county government and houses courtrooms and administrative offices. Security forces, including National Guard members, were visible on the building's upper levels, and barricades were erected around the perimeter.
