Rebar Reinforcement Cage, I-35W Stormwater Storage Facility, Minneapolis
This shaft is part of the I-35W Stormwater Storage Facility, a Minnesota Department of Transportation project built to capture and hold runoff from the interstate corridor in Minneapolis. Vertical rebar sections form the reinforcement cage that will be encased in concrete to create the structure's permanent walls. Reinforcing bar of this type is typically manufactured from recycled steel and features ridged surface deformations that help the rebar bond with surrounding concrete. Projects of this scale rely on cast-in-place concrete construction, where steel cages are assembled on site before concrete is poured around them in stages.
