The Fifth Avenue High-Rise, a Minneapolis Public Housing Authority building completed in the early 1970s, stands just east of downtown and overlooks the busy stretch of Interstate 35W seen below. Designed during an era when high-density towers were a common approach to urban public housing, the structure is part of a cluster of residential buildings intended to provide affordable units for seniors and residents with disabilities. In this view from October 2021, the west-facing façade catches the warm late-day light while evening traffic builds on I-35W toward downtown. In the background, the angular roofline of U.S. Bank Stadium marks the eastern edge of the central business district, situating the high-rise within one of the city’s most infrastructure-dense corridors.
