Kiku Bistro, Hennepin Ave, 2020 Uprising Graffiti

Art boards on Kiku Bistro on Hennepin Ave
Art boards on Kiku Bistro on Hennepin Ave.

Kiku Bistro on Hennepin Avenue displays protest graffiti from 2020. This restaurant, located in Uptown Minneapolis, boarded its windows with plywood panels following the May 25, 2020 death of George Floyd and the subsequent civil unrest. These protective boards became canvases for public expression, featuring graffiti and murals related to the widespread protests. The artwork includes "BLM" (Black Lives Matter) and other messages reflecting the community's response. This imagery documents a specific period of public commentary and artistic engagement within the city's commercial districts.
