Nicollet Mall Boarded Storefronts, Minneapolis, Sep 2020

Nicollet Mall in Downtown Minneapolis displays boarded storefronts on September 29, 2020. Businesses along this central pedestrian and transit mall, including Target Corporation stores visible on both sides, were secured with plywood. This protective measure was implemented by retailers in response to property damage and looting that occurred during the civil unrest in Minneapolis following the murder of George Floyd in May 2020. Nicollet Mall, originally designed in the 1960s, functions as a vital commercial and public thoroughfare in the city. The continued boarding several months later underscored ongoing concerns for urban security and property protection.
