Reconstruction is underway at the intersection of Nicollet Avenue and West Lake Street in Minneapolis, aiming to restore a vital urban connection. For decades, Nicollet Avenue was interrupted at this point by a K-Mart store, creating a significant barrier to north-south traffic and community cohesion. Following the store's closure and subsequent destruction by fire during the 2020 Minneapolis unrest, plans were initiated to re-establish the street grid.
