Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Resting on a Couch

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a toy breed developed in England, named for King Charles II, whose fondness for the small spaniels made them fixtures of the royal court in the 17th century. The breed carries blenheim, tricolor, black-and-tan, and ruby coat variations, with the chestnut-and-white pattern shown here classified as blenheim. Adults typically weigh between 13 and 18 pounds, making them one of the larger toy breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club. Bred originally as lap companions rather than working dogs, they remain popular household pets valued for their affectionate temperament.
