Sharpton, Crump, Floyd Family Kneel Outside Hennepin County Courthouse

On March 29, 2021, civil rights attorney Ben Crump and Rev. Al Sharpton, along with members of George Floyd's family, knelt for 8 minutes and 46 seconds outside the Hennepin County Government Center in Minneapolis. This act of remembrance occurred just prior to the opening statements in the trial of Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer accused of murdering George Floyd on May 25, 2020. The duration of the kneeling symbolized the amount of time Chauvin's knee was on Floyd's neck during the fatal arrest, an event that sparked widespread protests against police brutality.
