This granite outcrop sits along a small stream near Sylvan Lake, in the Black Hills of Custer State Park, South Dakota. The Black Hills' exposed granite dates to the Precambrian era, among the oldest rock formations in North America, and forms the rugged terrain surrounding Sylvan Lake's shoreline and hiking trails.
