Secret Beach sits on the western side of Ambergris Caye, a stretch of shoreline that grew from a quiet fishing access point into one of San Pedro's most visited attractions. The colorful painted letters welcoming visitors to San Pedro were installed as a landmark for the area's beach bars and restaurants, which line the shallow waters facing Belize's mainland coast. Unlike the island's eastern side, which faces the open Caribbean Sea and the Belize Barrier Reef, Secret Beach's western exposure offers calmer, shallower water due to its position along the caye's leeward side. Golf carts remain the primary way to reach the site, since much of the surrounding road network is unpaved sand and limestone track typical of Ambergris Caye's interior.
