On December 30, 2020, Minneapolis police shot and killed Dolal Idd during a firearm sting operation near a Holiday Gas station at 36th Avenue and Cedar Avenue in South Minneapolis. The following day, residents and protesters marched through the neighborhood, gathered at the gas station, and held a vigil on West 36th Street.
Minneapolis Police released video footage they said showed Idd firing first from his vehicle before officers returned fire. The killing came less than a mile from the intersection of 38th Street and Chicago Avenue, where George Floyd had been murdered by Minneapolis police seven months earlier.
