A handmade “FREE GROCERIES 4 NEIGHBORS” sign rests on a Minneapolis street in June 2020. Made from a rough sheet of wood and painted in blue letters, the sign points to neighborhood mutual-aid efforts that distributed food and other basic supplies after the police killing of George Floyd and the disruption of nearby businesses and services. Informal signs like this appeared across the city as residents organized local relief for their communities.
