The Zócalo, officially Plaza de la Constitución, has served as the ceremonial and political center of Mexico City since the Aztec era, when the site anchored the sacred precinct of Tenochtitlan. Covering roughly 46,800 square meters, it ranks among the largest public squares in the world. The National Palace, seat of the federal executive, lines its eastern side, while the Metropolitan Cathedral stands to the north. Taxis registered with the CDMX system, marked by their red-and-white livery, are a regular presence in the plaza as part of the city's licensed taxi fleet.
