Hubert Humphrey Statue, Boarded City Hall Victory Garden

The Hubert H. Humphrey statue stands before boarded windows at Minneapolis City Hall in Downtown Minneapolis. Dedicated in September 1981, the statue honors Humphrey's service as Mayor of Minneapolis, a U.S. Senator, and Vice-President of the United States. In front, the "City Hall Victory Garden" cultivates various plants, a community initiative inspired by World War II-era efforts to promote food production and engagement. The boarded windows on the municipal building reflect precautions taken during a period of civil unrest, such as the Minneapolis Uprising.
