Cub Foods is a supermarket chain owned by Minneapolis-based Supervalu, which operates it through a network of independently licensed franchise owners. The chain got its start in 1968 in Stillwater, Minnesota, built around a no-frills warehouse format that let shoppers bag their own groceries in exchange for lower prices. That model helped Cub grow into one of the largest grocery chains in the Twin Cities, with dozens of locations across the metro area. Many South Minneapolis neighborhoods rely on Cub stores as a primary grocery source, particularly in areas with fewer full-service supermarket options.
