The Fox River separates downtown Green Bay from the city's east side before emptying into the bay of Green Bay on Lake Michigan a few miles north. The Main Street Bridge, a lift span built in 1931, carries traffic across the river here and connects the downtown core to neighborhoods on the opposite bank. Hagemeister Park, a mixed-use riverfront development along the east shore, takes its name from the former Hagemeister Brewing Company, which operated on the site for much of the 20th century. The apartment and condominium buildings along the west bank were built as part of downtown Green Bay's riverfront redevelopment in the 2000s and 2010s.
