“Kids Live Upstairs” during Minneapolis Unrest, Lake Street

Boarded Lake Street storefronts in Minneapolis with “Kids Live Upstairs” messages after George Floyd’s killing.
Boarded storefronts on Lake Street in Minneapolis are covered with handwritten warnings including “Kids Live Upstairs” and “Please Don’t Burn” in the days after the May 25, 2020 killing of George Floyd. The businesses, photographed at night, include ground-floor retail spaces in a mixed-use commercial block with apartments above. Plywood barriers were widely installed along the corridor during the unrest to protect windows while also drawing attention to residents living over the shops.
