Shell operated the Convent Refinery along the Mississippi River in St. James Parish, Louisiana, from 1967 until shutting it down in 2020. The plant sat within the string of petrochemical facilities that line the river between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, an area often called Louisiana's River Parishes. This entrance sign, marking the administration and visitor checkpoint, once directed employees and guests into the refinery complex. After the shutdown, Shell began converting portions of the site for alternative industrial use.
